CMA and Guangdong provincial government signed cooperation memorandum to promote meteorological modernization

On Mar.12, China Meteorological Administration (CMA) and Guangdong provincial government signed a cooperation memorandum to promote meteorological modernization in Beijing. Mr. Wang Yang, the member of Political Bureau of Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Secretary of Guangdong Provincial Committee attended the ceremony. Mr. Zhu Xiaodan, Governor of Guangdong province and Dr. Zheng Guoguang, Administrator of CMA singed the memorandum on behalf of both sides. The ceremony was attended by Vice Governor of Guangdong Liu Kun, Deputy Administrators of Xu Xiaofeng, Yu Rucong, Shen Xiaonong and Yu Xinwen.


According to the memorandum, CMA and Guangdong Province will develop cooperation on five aspects. They will focus on accelerating to construct the monitoring and warning center for the meso-and micro-scale disasters in Pearl River Delta, boosting the meteorological support for "Safe mountainous areas" and "Safe marine areas", boosting the construction of national major lab of regional numerical forecast and enhancing the construction of meteorological channel for emergency.


Through the construction of the monitoring and warning center for the meso-and micro-scale disasters in Pearl River Delta, Guangdong maybe will realize over 95% coverage of forecast & warning for public, above 90% monitoring of meso-and micro-scale disasters. The warning information will be release 1 hour earlier with the 85% accuracy.


Through the construction of meteorological support for "Safe mountainous areas", Guangdong will improve the capabilities of monitoring and addressing emergency in Guangdong's mountainous areas.


In addition, the construction of meteorological support for "Safe marine areas" will develop the system of marine comprehensive meteorological observation & warning. It also will realize the effective monitoring for meteorological elements in 100 kilometers of offshore areas in South China Sea, effective forecasted period for typhoon track to 5 days. And it improve the capabilities of national defense security of South China Sea and the level of meteorological support for aerospace.


Finally, the construction of national major lab of regional numerical forecast will make Guangdong's level of regional numerical forecast to reach the international advanced level and Asian first-class level. According the memorandum, both sides will develop Guangdong's meteorological channel addressing emergency. (Mar.12)
